The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a yearly tradition for many years. It was previously played by 8 teams, but the number of teams participating in the 2022 season has increased to 10 with the addition of two new teams, Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Joints (LSG). In the 2023 season, a total of 10 teams will play in 74 matches.
Shardul Thakur was transferred from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to Delhi Capitals. The KKR team decided to retain a total of 14 players and submitted their list of retained and released players to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) before the November 15th deadline. On November 15th, 2022, it was announced that Shardul Thakur would be released by the KKR team ahead of the 2023 Mini Auction, which was held on December 23rd, 2022 in Kochi.
