What If You Can Only Blog Once A Month?

By Rahul Garg

Preparing and publishing blog posts does take a lot of time for most.

You can’t just write any post and hit the publish button.

You want to be strategic about it.

That is, you will gain much more by writing about topics that resonate well with your audience.

At the same time, each post much stem from the main message from your entire blog.

But you know what the problem is?

Advice!

Advice from different bloggers who each have different schedules and perceptions on how frequently to publish blog posts.

They tell you how often to publish blog posts based on their schedules alone.

But here’s one thing…

Their advice may not be right for you.

For example: If the advisor is advocating publishing a blog post every single day, and you work 12 hours a day, 5 days a week, then that’s going to be nearly impossible to do for yourself, right?

If you attempt to do it, for the most part your content isn’t going to be of great quality.

And you know what? Quality means something different to different people, and this is a whole different animal in and of itself.

In this post, I’m going to focus on those of you who don’t have a lot of time to publish blog posts as frequently as others recommend.

“Successful blogging is not about one time hits. It’s about building a loyal following over time.” ~ David Aston

You keep telling yourself there’s not enough time in a day.

You have so many plans to really get your blog going, but it seems like it’ll take too much time to complete it.

And it’s not like you can keep using up your vacation days and sick time to really push the pedal to the medal when it comes to your blog.

Yes, you want to be like those 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s year olds who retired young because of blogging, but it seems like you’re not heading in that direction.

You keep reading blog posts about posting everyday or even every week but would that be suitable for you?

Will that fit your schedule?

Are you going to stress yourself out because of your intense schedule?

It would be great if you can actually do this, but for most of you, it’s not that feasible.

And that’s the frustrating part!!!

You question jf you should be blogging altogether, but I tell you that blogging is a great way to really get yourself well known, not only in the blogosphere, but also with potential customers.

As far as blogging is concern there are 3 things you want to consider.

Yes you want to grow your blog and a home business, but at the same time you don’t want to stress yourself out doing it. There’s this thing called “working smart” and it’s based on the 3 elements I’m about to go into.

3 Elements To Focus On When Building Your Blog

When you’re blogging, you want to be clever with your time.

You don’t want to spend too much time on activities that’s not going to keep moving you foward. It’s nothing worse than wasting the time that you can use for other productive activities.

This is why it’s better to just focus on the following three activities which will definitely catapult your blog on levels where it should be.

And They Are:

Writing Quality Blog Posts

Incorporating SEO into your Blog Posts

Promoting Your Posts

In this case, It’s not about how often you publish a post, but the time you optimize for each post

Many focus on how frequently they should publish their blog posts. What really matter is how are you consistently putting out quality blog posts for your target audience to see.

So let’s go further into the 3 vital elements.

Writing Quality Blog Posts

What determines if a blog post is of top quality?

Is it just the images?

Is it how “articulate” you are with your written content?

Or maybe it’s how well organized the layout of your content is?

I do have to say, all of these play a significant role in publishing quality blog posts, but what really matters is the subjects that your target audience is interested in.

You can be the most articulate, have the most well organized blog with a bunch of clever images on your posts and still not get the quality traffic you want.

There are people on the internet that are looking for someone to answer their most dire questions.

If you have a health and fitness blog, there are people who are looking to lose weight and get those wash board abs.

You just have to write interesting topics that provide the solutions they can put into practice.

But how do you know if what you’re writing is of any value?

You can tell through the comments you get or the bounce rate metric from any marketing analytics tool like Google Analytics.

The best blog writing has to start with the subject matter before going into anything else that’s included in the main body of the blog.

If your subject matter doesn’t catch interest, then the rest of the post won’t matter. That’s why it’s vital to figure out what your traffic responds well to.

Incorporating SEO Into Your Blog Posts

Although SEO isn’t as powerful as it once was before, it’s still relevant in todays age.

Yes, I know a lot of bloggers tend to stay away from it, but it still helps with generating organic traffic from search engines.

This is one reason why you don’t have to publish blog posts as frequently as most would say. If you narrow your blog posts to a specific market of people according to specific subjects of interests, then your chances of getting visitors becomes greater.

SEO is a powerful ingredient to help make your blog successful.

It stands for Search Engine Optimization and there are certain actions you want to include within your blog that will optimize each of your blog posts for the best traffic.

The goal is for your target audience to find your blog whenever they do a search on a search engine like Google.

It’s definitely a great way to work smarter so you can spend your time doing other things like promoting your blog.

Promoting Your Blog Posts

There’s this 80/20 rule a lot of successful bloggers go by:

Spend 20 percent of your time publishing quality content, and spend 80% of your time promoting it.

When I first heard this, I didn’t believe it.

But after trying to publish blog posts everyday, and then once a week, you start to burn out. Especially if you have a hectic schedule.

You know what I found out.

I started publish a blog post once a month and putting in the same amount of promotion as I was before, and I still got the same results as far as traffic.

As a matter of fact, I started receiving more subscribers than I was before.

Now that’s saying a lot!

Promotion is a major ingredient when it comes to growing your blog. If you’re writing quality posts and incorporating relevant SEO, then you’ll get the best out of your promotion.

The key is to promote your blog wherever your target audience is! If you stay consistent with this, then your traffic will get better in due time!

Does it Really Matter How Often You Publish Your Blog Post?

In all fairness, it really depends on your audience.

For example, if your audience lead a busy life, then you might not want to publish so much. But if your audience have all the time in the world, then publishing more may be a better option.

There really isn’t any right answer.

You have to figure out who’s attracted to your writing and what would the average schedule of your target audience be.

If you’re one that has a lot of time on your hands, then you may want to check out Neil Patel’s post 5 Simple Steps That’ll Help You Determine How Often You Need To Blog where he goes into blog frequency stats and using analytics to figure out how to determine how often to publish blog posts.

I myself found out that I’m getting pretty much the same results publishing blog posts once a month compared to publishing 4 times a month in the previous year.

One thing about the previous year that nudged me a bit was that although I gained more traffic than previous years, I’ve reached a hump I couldn’t get over.

This happens to many, and it shows that working harder may not be all that beneficial to you.

It’s more about finding out why you can’t get over that hump.

It could be one or two simple things you could be overlooking.

Conclusion

Bloggers have different schedules and different audiences.

It wouldn’t be fair to give advice to those that have a busy schedule to publish a blog post everyday.

Not only that, but if you made it clear in your About Me page of who your blog is for, then this is one of the clues you’ll base the frequency of publishing your posts.

When it comes down to gaining targeted traffic you want to publish quality posts, incorporate SEO, and promote like there’s tomorrow to your target audience.

If you can only publish a blog post once a month, don’t be embarrassed, because you have successful bloggers like Brian Dean of Backlinko who actually follows this schedule.

Make sure you check out Brian’s blog and also stay focus on what you can do to optimize your time than pushing yourself to work harder publishing more content within a month.

It makes a great difference!

Now It’s Your Turn!
