We all use online websites for all types of work in today’s world. While using a website has it ever happened that you tried guessing what the .com or .in means. It might also be possible that over somewhere you came across the name such as domain name and was not able to figure out what that means. If anything like this happened to you then I am happy that in today’s article all your possible doubts are going to be solved. The content delivery below is user friendly so no tough words but direct meaning follow. Kindly read the whole article to get all your doubts clear. Now the first question that I came across is what is a domain name and why are there so many extensions available out there. First, let’s understand what a domain name is. Well is nothing but a strong name that is created to reflect a particular brand. Whether one makes it similar to any other brand name or different, this does not matter as much long as it authentically represents one’s business. Now the advantage of a good domain name is that it gives you visibility, adds credibility and apart from all this it even reinforces your brand.

However, if you come up with a short, concise, memorable name then it would be a great development for your business. Even when such a name has been figured out then also your job is not yet over as you still have a lot to do to make it an official name. The next thing that you are going to decide over here is which extension you are going to use.

The domain extension is a very important factor that plays an important role as it reflects the purpose of your very website. While there are several extensions available on the internet such as .com,.net,.edu are among the various popular extensions to use. Now I know you must be sure that a majority of people must think about which extension must be used and how can you figure that out. Well, this is a common doubt. As when you look over these extensions you may always find one better than the other very time you have an overview. Domain extensions are letters that are found directly after the URL of the website. A full domain name however contains two major parts which is a top-level domain (TLD) and the second one is a second-level domain (SLD). In this case, a domain extension or a TLD is all that comes after a certain period which is represented in the form of a dot (.) before the slashes such as .net or .com.

Now in all that “.com” is the only domain extension that is the top-level one as defined by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers also known as ICANN in short. The extension that we see at the end of every domain name is basically like the three-digit area code preceding it with the phone number. This mainly lets the operator know (the operator in here is the internet) where the direct connection is being made. Over here the extension type determines whether it’s global or even country based on which type of website it is. Just like a physical address helps a person find a particular place in the same way a domain name is a help to the visitor of the internet to find your particular website at the earliest. Without the domain name, the user can only access the websites using the internet protocol (IP) address. Well, the IP addresses are kind of hard to remember as it’s big and somewhat weird to learn at once. Domain name however should be good as this is responsible to attract traffic to your website.

Now people may get confused between the domain name and a URL but once you understand the term properly it would not be that much hard to understand. However, there are a few similarities which is the utmost reason for the confusion. A URL acts as the full address of any website that will direct the user to a particular website or page. A domain name is however just a part of the URL. in brief a URL consists of a protocol, a domain and a path. The protocol shows whether the website has an SSL Certificate.

Both parts are important for a website to run and first to be made.

Conclusion:

I hope the information shared above was useful to all my readers out there.
