XIAOMI Mi3 vs XIAOMI REDMI 1S

By Ovais Mirza

Tech geeks around the country must be smacking their lips as the Xiaomi bandwagon rolls into India. Xiaomi launched their flagship product the Mi3 , along with two other products the Redmi 1S and the Redmi Note, in July. Not surprisingly , the Mi3 sold out in 38 minutes flat !But if  you’re  confused as to which model is best suited to you, let take a quick look at the pros and cons of the two models, the Xiaomi Mi3 and the Redmi 1S.

Xiaomi Mi3 vs Xiaomi Redmi 1S: DESIGN

The Redmi 1S suffers in comparison to the Mi3 , with the former having a much smaller 4.7 inch screen compared to the Mi3’s 5 inch display.

Surprisingly the Mi3 is also much lighter (145g) compared to the Redmi (158g).

At 8.1mm , the Mi3 is 1.8mm lighter than the Redmi, giving it a slimmer , ultra sleek look.

SPECIFICATION

The Redmi 1S is powered by a 1.6 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor coupled with a 1GB RAM.

The Xiaomi Mi3 uses a more powerful Quad-core 2.3 GHz processor with a 2GB RAM.

This makes the Mi3 a much more responsive phone with respect to both work , and entertainment.

The Mi3 also has an upper hand as it has a fast 802.11ac 5Ghz Wi-fi connection making higher transfer rates and improved power consumption, which is , in turn , advantageous for gaming and HD video streaming. The Redmi does have a Dual SIM card option, which makes it an attractive proposition in comparison to the Mi3.

DISPLAY

The Mi3 has a distinctly higher resolution of 1920×1080 px compared to the Redmi 1S  having a 1280x 720 px screen resolution. Also, the Mi3 has a 41% higher pixel density than the Redmi 1S, with 441 ppi compared to the Redmi’s 312 ppi. Clearly, the Mi3 gives the user a sharp and clear image putting it in the league of the much fancied iPhones’and Samsungs’.

MEMORY

The Mi3 offers an Internal memory of 16 GB up to 64 GB compared to the 8GB  offered by the Redmi. On the other hand, the Redmi 1S allows an external memory micro SD card which can store up to 64 GB, which isn’t present in the Mi3. This may be taken as a major hindrance depending on the users choice of storing data. An iPhone user may take to the Mi3 better than other users.

CAMERA

The Mi3 is the clear winner here with a much better camera. Its 13 MP 4128 x 3096 pixels Primary camera, dwarfs the Redmi’s 8 MP 3264 x 2448 pixels version. Also ,a 2MP front camera, touch auto focus ,manual exposure settings, dual LED flash makes it a more exciting camera to work with.

BATTERY

The Xiaomi Mi3 is powered by a 3050 mAh battery compared to a much inferior 2000 mAh battery of the Redmi. Not to say that the Redmi has a poor battery , but the Mi3 takes the cake with this one with a power supply that is 1.5 times better than its ‘cousin’.

Xiaomi Mi3 vs Xiaomi Redmi PRICE

The Xiaomi Mi3 is priced at around Rs 17,999 , making it slightly expensive. However, for the features and design , it is worth the money. The basic version of the Redmi 1S , on the other hand , is priced at a much more competitive Rs 6999, making it a mass selling phone.

My Personal Verdict

Both the phones are decent buys for they’re being sold at.

Overall the Mi3 is the big brother out of the two phones.

The Xiaomi Mi3 is a better option for users who are glued to their phones, whether it be work , photography or all out games and entertainment.

The Xiaomi Redmi 1S, with dual SIM option, and attractive price, is sure to be hit with the mass population. The marketing heads in Xiaomi clearly know the market they’re launching their product
