To bring up the Inventory screen, press E.
Click a block that has wood attached to it to pick it up, and then click on an empty square in the crafting grid will display where you can place it.
Select the square containing the planks by clicking it. One wood block vanishes, but four wooden planks appear on the mouse cursor.
These planks can be used as building blocks or to construct a crafting table and chest.
Although your avatar’s crafting grid is a 2-by-2 square, many of the items you’ll need to survive require a 3-by-3 grid. You must construct a crafting table to gain access to the larger grid. To make a crafting table or workbench, follow these steps:

To access the Inventory screen, press E.
Right-click on the crafting grid, and click on a square to distribute four planks to it.
Place the crafting table in the bottom row of your inventory by clicking on the item in your inventory and then on a square in the bottom row of the inventory.
Items placed on the bottom row can only be accessed through the Inventory screen. The bottom row of the game screen appears every time.
To close the inventory, press the E or Esc key.
Select the crafting table using the 1–9 keys or the scroll wheel.
The crafting table has a thick, white outline around it.
To select items from the bottom row of the inventory, you can use either the number keys or the scroll wheel. Arrange your belongings so that you can reach them quickly.
To place the crafting table, simply right-click on a nearby surface.
