How to Make a Chest in Minecraft
Everyone knows that the standard inventory space in Minecraft is insufficient to hold everything you encounter during a play through. A chest allows you to store valuable items, and it’s not uncommon to build dozens of chests just to have enough storage space. Making a chest is an important part of any Minecraft adventure, and I’ll show you how to do it.
To make a chest in Minecraft, you’ll need the following items.
- Planks of wood
- A table for crafting
With only eight wooden planks per chest, chests are a cheap and incredibly simple recipe. To make a chest, you can use any wood you want. You can even combine different types of wood.
To make a chest, you’ll need a crafting table with a nine-space crafting menu.

Open your crafting table GUI and arrange eight wooden planks in a circle, leaving the middlebox empty. If you run out of a specific type of wood, you can substitute different types of wooden planks to complete the project.
Step-by-Step Instructions

- If you run out of a specific type of wood, you can substitute different types of wooden planks to complete the project.
- A single chest can hold the same amount of items in your inventory as you can in your inventory (minus your toolbar). A single chest can therefore hold twenty-seven items.

what to do you do with a chest?
Before sorting, always make a single chest to hold all of my items. When you first enter the survival world, your inventory is likely to be full of saplings, seeds, dirt, and other miscellaneous items. It’s almost as if clearing your inventory is a breath of fresh air.
You can also make a double chest by putting two chests side by side. This effectively doubles the capacity of the chest.
Chests can now be stacked on top of each other. Don’t worry, the game recognises when there is a chest above it and will now open even if multiple chests are stacked on top of one another. Condensing storage becomes much easier as a result of this.
Simply hold crouch and right-click to stack chests on top of each other without opening the one at the bottom. You can be as inventive as you want with your chest placement.
You can line up double chests in a row like this to get a lot of storage space in a small space. Remember that if a chest is above it, but not a solid block, chests will open.

How to Make a Trapped Chest?
To your storage, a trapped chest is a more devious approach. By opening the chest, you will set off a Redstone pulse that can power all kinds of items, such as lights, TNT, etc.
If you have a tripwire hook and a chest in one of the crafting spaces, then all you have to do is place the tripwire hook and chest in one of the crafting spaces, and your trapped chest is ready to go.
To make a trapped chest in Minecraft, perform the following steps:
- Any adjacent Redstone systems will be powered by trapped chests. In short, if you place a trap near the trapped chest, you’ll have to use a repeater or close proximity to a trap for the chest to have any chance of triggering the trap
- Open a chest that is trapped.
- The Redstone pulse is triggered when the trapped chest is opened. Redstone wiring will not activate if it is more than one block away.
- The trapped chest must be opened in order to activate the Redstone pulse
- The Redstone repeater only extends the pulse by a block if it is placed right next to the chest. To replenish the previous distance, simply use another Redstone Repeater.
- Utilizing pulse blocks which are located a considerable distance away from the original pulse in Minecraft
- This power makes it possible to power blocks that are significantly farther away than the original pulse emitted from the trapped chest.
