Fortnite is leaving early access status

On July 25, 2017, almost three years ago, Fortnite saw the light of day with the now minor “Save the World” PVE mode. The free Battle Royale mode followed on September 26, 2017, which explosively brought the game to a lot of fame. To date, the survival mode has thrilled millions of players and has caused a sensation worldwide with several PR stunts by developers and publishers.

Not least because of the $ 40 million prize money for the World Cup in 2019 and the “black hole” event for the launch of the second chapter, awareness grew beyond the gaming and esports scenes of the world. On Tuesday, June 30, 2020, the Fortnite team now announced on the official Epic Games homepage that the game as a whole is now leaving early access status.

So far, despite numerous updates, developments, advances, content expansions, seasons, esports events and much more, Fortnite had not been lifted out of this “early access” stage. The “Early Access” label will be removed from the PvE premium save the world mode as well as from the Battle Royale F2P coupling and the “creative mode”. As the team reported in the announcement, early access branding in the latter two modes was a holdover from the initial save of the world launch.

No F2P changeover

It was also decided against switching the Save the World mode to a free-to-play model with the full release on Tuesday. You want the PvE part in Fortnite to remain a “premium experience”. The speed of development is slowed down in this context, but the journey for the players does not end here, despite everything.

All founders who have previously supported the early access version financially will now receive their “Founder’s Pack Upgrade” on the next level and thus unlock all included rewards. For all owners of the Ultimate Edition, this also includes the new “Metal Team Leader Pack” and 8,000 V-Bucks.

Over the coming months, not all cosmetic items from the Fortnite Battle Royale would be compatible in save the world mode. The existing library of skins in the players’ inventory will continue to work smoothly in both modes. As soon as this change is activated, there should be another indication.
